What first attracted you to work at Sandboxx? 

Sandboxx initially caught my eye because of its mission. Some of my closest friends are Army and Marine Veterans. With that, going to work everyday feels easy when I’m doing something I’m passionate about, and Sandboxx’s mission to serve our military community is easy to feel passionate about. 

Sandboxx also stood out to me because it’s a start up. I love the startup world, and the fast paced feel of every day being different. 

What is something unique about your team? 

The marketing team at Sandboxx is spread across the country, but each member feels more like family. Made up of Veterans, and those of us with no military background, we’re all equally driven to make life better for the people Sandboxx serves. I love that I am constantly learning from the people around me. Plus we like to send photos of our pets throughout the week, and it’s always a fun, bright spot in my day!

What is something you’re proud of that you’ve achieved at Sandboxx? 

I get to work with the product and marketing teams to create go to market strategies that make life easier for our users. This means I get to speak to our users pretty regularly and turn their feedback into actionable marketing plans to make their Sandboxx experience better. I’m proud to be able to contribute to making small improvements in the day to day of our military community. It’s rewarding to see feedback from our users that reference projects I’ve worked on and get to see how it’s positively impacted them. 

What does Sandboxx’s mission of connecting our military community mean to you? 

I love being a part of team Sandboxx, this is a company that cares about every single one of its users. I hear “do good by doing good” every week, and it’s something we all take seriously here. I feel so fortunate to be part of a team whose mission is dedicated to our country’s service members.

Meet Bucky Fitzgerald! He has been with Sandboxx since June 2021 and is the Fulfillment Team Lead. The Fulfillment team is responsible for printing and shipping Sandboxx Letters and ensuring they get to the military base mailrooms on time. Learn more about Bucky’s experience working at Sandboxx.

What first attracted you to work at Sandboxx? 

I first heard about Sandboxx because I had family working for the company (Hi Mom!) and it sounded like a noble cause and a company where finding pride from your work was easy. I hadn’t been working here for a week before I knew this company and its employees were winners and knew I wanted to do my part to help the team.

What is something unique about your team? 

I think the Fulfillment team is such a unique team at Sandboxx, since it’s the only team based completely out of the office. I like to think of us as the backbone of Sandboxx as we assure all the hard work of the other departments is seen to the finish line day in and day out.

What is something you’re proud of that you’ve achieved at Sandboxx? 

Since managing the Fulfillment team, we have had zero letters fulfilled past the day they were promised, and that’s really a testament to my team’s dedication, the lended support of Customer Happiness and Sam Sorenson, and the great situation I inherited from my predecessors. Every day the Fulfillment team strives to be more efficient in cost, output, and use of our time and I think it shows.

What does Sandboxx’s mission of connecting our military community mean to you? 

I have a family full of military service. It’s wonderful to know my father, grandfathers, and others who are no longer with us can look down with admiration for the work we do each day (and maybe forgive me for not enlisting myself). It is such a sacrifice these young men and women make by joining the armed services so I am proud to offer them better opportunities for support from their loved ones as they go through some of the most trying weeks of their lives. I’m always so excited to see our continued projects improving the military community’s connection. I am a very proud member of The Boxx (still trying to get that nickname to stick though).

Meet Kris Broadus! He has been with Sandboxx since May 2022 as an Army Relations Manager. He is a retired Sergeant Major in the U.S. Army and now fosters a partnership with Sandboxx and the Army. What first attracted you to work at Sandboxx? 

Joining any of the Military branches is a very tough decision and it takes a lot of courage to do so. Being part of a company that is 100% committed to making the transition into the Military as seamless as possible is extremely gratifying. I get the opportunity to support the men and women that have served, help prepare the next generation of selfless Veterans, and help keep our Military members connected to their loved ones. I also get to work around a team of people that all share the same common goal and love our Military. What else could be better?

What is something unique about your team? 

I am very fortunate to work with a group of professionals on the Military Relations team that have a proven track record of dedicated service to our nation. With over 100 years of experience across the military branches between the 4 members on our team, we are completely dedicated to serving the next generation of Service Members and their families.  

What is something you’re proud of that you’ve achieved at Sandboxx? 

The thing that makes me most proud of my time at Sandboxx is the ability to keep families and supporters of our next generation of Service Members connected through their Military journey. I’ve been fortunate to attend many Basic Training graduations and meet with our families that used Sandboxx, the gratitude and appreciation towards what we are able to do for them is overwhelming. It definitely puts a smile on my face every time!

As a Veteran, what does Sandboxx’s mission of connecting our military community mean to you? 

Early in my career, I remember my days in Basic Training wondering what my family and friends were doing while I was away. I was in this new world away from home for the first time. It was paralyzing waiting for letters to arrive in the mail. Sometimes letters would arrive two weeks after being sent and the information wasn’t pertinent anymore. With Sandboxx we get the ability to keep families connected in real time with no delay or demise of relevance in communication between families and supporters of Service Members. I truly wish Sandboxx would have been around in the initial days of my Army journey.

Meet Derril Lucci! He has been with Sandboxx since June 2022 as a Senior Android Engineer. He is responsible for ensuring the Sandboxx app is running smoothly for our Android users. Learn more about Derril’s experience working at Sandboxx and his family connection to the military.

What first attracted you to work at Sandboxx? 

What attracted me to Sandboxx were two things. First, our mission to serve Veterans. My Dad was a Colonel in the Marines and my Grandfather was a Corporal so I grew up around the Marines and this is a great way to give back to that community. The second item that drew me to Sandboxx is the ability to work at a startup. I’ve worked for big companies before but doing so can take a while for your impact to be felt. Working at a startup allows for new team members to come in and have an almost immediate impact.    

What is something unique about your team? 

The Android team is completely remote with members all around the world. We currently have teammates on three continents and it helps having people from all different backgrounds bring their own viewpoints and experiences when it comes time to solve a technical problem. Plus, we are quite nimble and can pivot to work on a higher priority problem should it come up.

What is something you’re proud of that you’ve achieved at Sandboxx? 

We had a challenging release a couple of months back that involved stripping out libraries on the fly and replacing those libraries with custom built functionality. I remember that I had to work until 2 am to fix this functionality. While this would not be consistently enjoyable, I enjoy the rush of this every now and then.  

What does Sandboxx’s mission of connecting our military community mean to you? 

Being able to give back to the military community is huge. I think the possibilities with our product is enormous and has the limitless potential to facilitate the lives of Veterans and their families through all phases of their military career.

Meet Stephen Kae! He has worked for Sandboxx since February 2020 as a Director of Growth. He is responsible for building new products and features for Sandboxx that our customers ask for. Learn more about Stephen’s experience working at Sandboxx.

What first attracted you to work at Sandboxx?

I was introduced to Sandboxx through our former Chief Product Officer Craig Zingerline, who I had worked with in the past and has been a mentor of mine. After being introduced to the Leadership Team and learning about Sandboxx’s mission and culture it seemed like a great fit and I joined soon afterwards. I’m now approaching my third year with the team!

What is something unique about your team?

The Product Team’s mission is to build products and features that people will love, and to do so we’re always looking at the data to see various engagement trends and continuously seeking feedback from customers. It’s incredibly helpful that so many of our team members are Veterans and Milspouses – so we always get great internal feedback in tandem with those from our customers.

What is something you’re proud of that you’ve achieved at Sandboxx?

Conceptualizing and launching our Subscription Products. One of the first assignments new Product and Marketing Team Hires have is to learn more about our customers via 1-on-1 phone calls. After a few dozen customer calls we heard many people include motivational quotes, bible verses, and sports-related updates in their Basic Training Letters. We wanted to test the hypothesis that many more of our customers wanted to share similar updates to their recruits and if we could automate this. 

Soon afterwards we tested a few versions of the Daily Drive and The Dispatch Weekly Newsletter on our Sandboxx Shop which began to show great traction and then we eventually added them into our app.

What does Sandboxx’s mission of connecting our military community mean to you?

It’s incredible how mission-driven Sandboxx is. As the company has expanded and we’re growing our suite of products, our CEO Sam Meek has continuously expressed how important it is to have our military community top of mind every step of the way. 

It’s refreshing to know that we’re building products dedicated specifically for our nation’s service members and their loved ones and not another consumer monetization app.
