Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and it’s time to sit down and write that special letter to your loved one who is away at training. The idea of writing something meaningful can be a bit daunting. This is your time to pour your heart out and share how much you care with your recruit. Here are some ideas that you can add to your military Valentine’s Day letter.

Share a memory

Even though they are away, you can still reflect on the times you had together. Share your favorite memories in your military Valentine’s Day letter that can help them escape the day-to-day of their tough training. Bonus points if it’s a Valentine’s Day memory!

Say it with a love song

Not sure what to say? Get inspiration from a love song! Sometimes it’s just easier to let someone else do the talking. Find a song that your recruit loves and put those lyrics in your letter. Check out our love song playlist to find the perfect song.

Here are some of our favorite songs:

  • Lovebug by the Jonas Brothers
  • Better Together by Jack Johnson
  • A Thousand Years by Christina Perri
  • Where Is The Love? by Black Eyed Peas

Movie quotes

We all know a romcom that can say exactly how we feel, so why not use that in our letters? Choose your recruit’s favorite movie and grab a love quote from it to add to your military Valentine’s Day letter. Here are some of our favorite to get your creative juices flowing:

  • “When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.” — Harry in When Harry Met Sally
  • “To me, you are perfect.” — Mark in Love Actually
  • “I’m scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life the way I feel when I’m with you.” — Baby in Dirty Dancing
  • “I want all of you, forever, you and me, every day.” — Noah in The Notebook
  • “I would rather share one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone.” — Arwen in The Lord of the Rings

Can’t send chocolates?

It’s not the best idea to send a box of chocolates to basic training, but there’s still a way you can do something special for your recruit. They won’t have much free time, but the free time they do have can be spent reading. Send your recruit The Dispatch: Weekly Newsletter to fill their free time with articles about military or pop culture topics. Along with your letters it can be just the things they look forward to each week and can help them stay motivated in training.

Top it off with a photo

Photos make everything better, especially your military Valentine’s Day letter. Share a picture of your memory to help them remember it. A photo of you and your recruit together, pets, kids and family are all great photos to send. Remember to keep your photos appropriate, Sandboxx never looks at the photos you send but your recruit is living in close quarters with others, so someone might sneak a peek.

If you want to send a more traditional Valentines, use one of our pre-made Valentines. Just save them to your device and add them to your Sandboxx Letter.

Being away doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate Valentine’s Day with your loved one. Get creative with your letter and try something new. No matter if they’re a future Soldier, Marine, Sailor, Guardian, Airman or Coastie – they’ll appreciate the gesture of love while they’re at training. Happy Valentine’s Day!
